Direct Energy Ordered to Cease Door-to-Door Solicitations
Woodbridge Township -- Mayor John E. McCormac announced that Police Director Robert Hubner, Woodbridge Police Department (WPD), has issued an Order revoking the Peddlers/Solicitors license granted to Direct Energy/Birkshire Group, employees and representatives. The Directive effectively prohibits Direct Energy/Birkshire Group representatives, employees or solicitors from continued door-to-door solicitations in Woodbridge Township.
The Municipal Clerk’s Office and the Woodbridge Police Department received numerous complaints regarding aggressive solicitation tactics and misrepresentations allegedly made by Direct Energy representatives during the course of door-to-door activity - solicitation(s) determined to be violation of the Woodbridge Township Solicitation Ordinance 4-2.
Mayor McCormac, in conjunction with the Municipal Clerk’s Office and the Woodbridge Police Department, reminded residents that any businesses soliciting door-to-door must secure a permit from the Municipal Clerk and must prominently display valid permit and identification credentials. Residents are encouraged to contact the Woodbridge Police Department at 732- 634-7700 should Direct Energy resume door-to-door solicitation in violation of the Revocation Order.
